Discontinuance of Ignition/Door Key Knock-outs
Models:
1996 Chevrolet Camaro (Ignition Key Only)
1996 Pontiac Firebird (Ignition Key Only)
1996 Chevrolet and GMC Light Duty Models
1996 Oldsmobile Bravada
The above 1996 models no longer have the familiar key knock-outs with the key codes imprinted on them. Key codes will continue to be printed on the vehicle invoice.
Important: Key codes WILL NOT incorporate the alpha letter O, but will utilize the number zero. ALL 0's ARE ZERO'S.
Some 1996 Owner's Manuals currently tell the owner about a bar coded key tag. This statement will be removed. Bar coded key tags were originated for assembly plant use only, and were not intended for the general public. Most key cutters do not have the equipment needed to read the bar coded tags, so they are of no use for making replacements.
