Steering Column - Removal and Installation
WARNING: Servicing the vehicle's SIR-associated systems without first disabling the airbag may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.Fig. 4 Steering Column Replacement.:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove inflator module, if equipped.
3. Remove steering wheel.
4. Proceed as follows:
a. Remove steering column trim panel.
b. Remove lower steering column brace to steering column mounting bolts.
c. Remove lower steering column brace attaching bolts, then the lower steering column brace.
d. Remove lower Cardan joint pinch bolt from intermediate shaft. Mark alignment of Cardan joint yoke to steering shaft.
e. Remove upper steering column bracket.
5. Remove capsule nuts and lower steering column.
6. Disconnect steering column electrical connector.
7. Remove shift cable retaining clip and shift cable.
8. Remove steering column assembly, rotating column so shift lever clears cowl opening.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten bolts and nuts to specifications.
