Rear Suspension Bottoms Out in Cold Weather
(Replace Jounce Bumpers)

Condition

An owner may report that in cold weather, when the temperature is 20° F (-7° C) or colder, the rear suspension bottoms out over some bumps.

Cause

The jounce bumper material does not adequately dampen suspension jounce when cold. A new jounce bumper has been designed that absorbs more jounce energy in cold temperatures.

Correction

Replace the jounce bumpers with the redesigned parts.

Service Procedure

1. Assemble replacement bumper assemblies, P/N 15023225, to brackets, P/N 15023224, using nut, P/N 11516072. Tighten nut to 47 Nm (35 lb ft).

2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.

3. Remove the nuts holding the axle bumper brackets to the frame rails.

4. Install replacement axle bumper assemblies and brackets to the frame.

Tighten

Tighten nuts to 47 Nm (35 lb ft).

5. Lower vehicle.
