Models:
1996 Chevrolet and GMC S/T Models with 4.3L Engine (VINs W, X - RPOs L35, LF6) Built Prior to the VIN Breakpoints:

Condition

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) PO461 stored but no problem reported or found with the fuel gauge reading.

Cause

The Vehicle Control Module (VCM) program is incorrect.

Correction

Reprogram the VCM using the new calibration available on your Techline Terminal CD # 1 (1996) or later.

Service Procedure

1. Use Tech 1 to check the calibration number.

2. Vehicles with old calibration should be reprogrammed with new "FLASH" calibration following the Service Manual procedure in Section 6E, Engine Controls.
