Timing Chain and Sprockets
TIMING COMPONENTSREMOVAL
^ Tools Required: J 5825-A Crankshaft Sprocket Puller
1. Remove the crankshaft position sensor bolt and the crankshaft position sensor.
2. Remove the engine front cover.
NOTE: Once the composite engine front cover is removed do not reinstall the cover. Always install a new engine front cover.
3. Remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring.
4. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt, the camshaft sprocket and the timing chain.
5. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
- Remove crankshaft sprocket key, if necessary.
INSTALLATION
1. If removed, install the key into the crankshaft keyway.
2. Use the crankshaft balancer installer to install the crankshaft sprocket.
3. Install the camshaft sprocket and timing chain.
NOTE: The gears must mesh in order to prevent damage to the camshaft retainer.
CAUTION Be sure to align the camshaft and the crankshaft sprocket marks.
Timing marks (Number 4 Firing).
4. Install camshaft sprocket bolts.
Tighten bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
5. Align the keyway on the reluctor ring with the key in the crankshaft.
6. Install the reluctor ring onto the crankshaft until the ring is completely seated against the crankshaft sprocket.
7. Install a new engine front cover.
Tighten cover bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb. in.).
8. Install the crankshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb. in.).
