Troubleshooting Hints - Instrument Panel Dimming
1. CHECK the condition of the ILLUM Fuse (Fuse 14) and GAUGES Fuse (Fuse 4). If either Fuse is open, LOCATE and REPAIR the cause of the overload then REPLACE the Fuse.2. CHECK that grounds G101, G103, G105 and G200 clean and tight.
3. If the I/P lights dim erratically when using the Dimmer Switch, check the Headlamp and Panel Dimmer Switch for a poor connection. If OK, REPLACE the Headlamp and Panel Dimmer Switch.
4. CHECK for open filaments in any inoperative lamps. If Radio illumination is inoperative, then remove Radio for REPAIR. If Instrument Cluster illumination lamps are inoperative and the wiring is OK, then REPLACE the Instrument Cluster.
5. If more than one of the I/P Bulbs will not illuminate, check the GRY (8) wire for Voltage at the location of the inoperative bulb. If Voltage exists. REPAIR open in the ground path.
^ CHECK for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove GOOD in a Continuity/Voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded. and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ CHECK for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems (See Diagnostic Aids for General Troubleshooting Procedures). Diagnostic Aids
