Chart B Warning Lamp Comes On Steady

Diagnostic Chart:

Diagnostic Chart:

Wiring Diagram:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
When the ignition switch is first turned to "RUN," "Ignition 1" voltage is applied from the "GAUGES" fuse to the "AIR BAG" warning lamp which is connected to "SIR Indicator," terminal "7" of the SDM. The "AIR BAG" fuse applies system voltage to the "Ignition 1" input, terminal "10." The SDM responds by flashing the "AIR BAG" warning lamp seven times. If "Ignition 1" is outside of the normal operating voltage range, the "AIR BAG" warning lamp will come "ON" steady with no DTCs set.

CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. This test checks the voltage supply to the SDM. If "Ignition 1" voltage is less than 5.9 volts, the "AIR BAG" warning lamp will be "ON" steady and the SDM will not be able to communicate via serial data.

2. This test checks if "Ignition 1" voltage is less than 8.2 volts. If "Ignition 1" voltage is less than 8.2 volts (but greater than 5.9 volts), the "AIR BAG" warning lamp will be "ON" steady and the SDM will be able to communicate via serial data. Low "Ignition 1" voltage will not set any DTCs.
3. This test checks for a backed out SDM harness connector and/or CPA.
4. This test checks for a short from CKT 358 to ground.
5. This test checks for a backed out SDM harness connector and/or CPA.
6. This test checks for a shorted lamp driver within the SDM.
7. If the shorting bar within the SDM harness connector is damaged, it may be shorting terminal "6" to "7," even with the SDM harness connector and CPA properly engaged.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The SDM harness connector and CPA must be properly installed to the SDM to disable the shorting bar from terminal "6" to "7" within the SDM harness connector.
8. An open "AIR BAG" fuse would cause the "AIR BAG" warning lamp to come "ON" steady.
9. This test checks for a proper connection at terminal "10" of SDM.
10. If the SDM terminals are damaged, the SDM must be replaced.
11. This test checks for an open in the "Ignition 1" circuit.
12. This checks whether a short to ground caused the "AIR BAG" fuse to open.
13. This test determines whether a short to ground is due to a short in the wiring.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
A high resistance in CKT 1139 and/or at terminal "10" of the SDM could cause "Ignition 1" voltage to be below normal operating range.
