Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement

REMOVAL

NOTE: Be sure to keep parts in order. Parts must be put back from where they were removed.

1. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.





2. Remove the valve rocker arm nut. If only the pushrod is to be replaced, back the valve rocker arm nut off until the valve rocker arm can be swung away from the pushrod. Then pull the pushrod out.

3. Remove the valve rocker arm with the ball.





4. Remove the pushrod.

5. Inspect the valve rocker arms and balls at their mating surfaces. These surfaces should be smooth and free from scoring or other damage.

6. Inspect the valve rocker arm areas that contact the valve stems and the sockets that contact the pushrods. These areas should be smooth and free of damage and wear.

7. Inspect the pushrods for bending. Roll the pushrod on a flat surface to determine if the pushrod is bent. Replace the pushrod if necessary.

8. Inspect the ends of the pushrods for scoring or roughness.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the pushrod. Make sure the pushrod seats properly in the valve lifter.

NOTE: When new valve rocker arms and/or balls are installed, coat their bearing surfaces with high viscosity oil with zinc. Use GM P/N 1052367 or the equivalent.

2. Install the valve rocker arm with the ball.
3. Install the valve rocker arm nut.
4. Adjust the valves. Valve Clearance

5. Install the valve rocker arm cover.
