Antilock System Operation

SELF TESTS
The Antilock Brake System (ABS) performs two system self-tests automatically.

The First Self Test - Is performed when the ignition is turned to RUN. Both the ABS ANTILOCK lamp and the BRAKE warning lamp will turn on for a few seconds, then they will turn off individually. If one of the lights stays on, it could indicate that either the Antilock Brake System or base brake system needs attention.

The Second Self Test - is performed when the vehicle begins to move and the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) cycles the hydraulic portion of the Antilock Brake System. A noise from the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) may be noticed when this function occurs.
