Component Tests and General Diagnostics

PHYSICAL INSPECTION
Inspect exhaust pipes, seals, catalytic converters, mufflers and tailpipes for cracked joints, broken welds and corrosion damage which could permit exhaust fumes to seep into the rear compartment or passengers compartment. Inspect the clamps, brackets and insulators for cracks and stripped or corroded bolt threads.

CHECK ALIGNMENT
The exhaust system, including heat shields, must be free of leaks, binding, grounding, and excessive vibration. These conditions are usually caused by damaged or loose flange bolts, seals, heat shields, brackets, or pipes. If any of these conditions exist, check the exhaust system components and alignment. Align and replace as necessary.
