Bore Reconditioning
1. Measure the cylinder bore for out-of-round and taper.^ Out-of-round:
- Production 0.025 mm (0.001 inch)
- Service 0.05 mm (0.002 inch)
^ Taper:
- Thrust Side 0.012 mm (0.0005 inch)
- Relief side 0.025 mm (0.0010 inch)
- Service limit 0.025 mm (0.0010 inch)
2. If the cylinder bore taper or the wear exceed specification, bore and hone the cylinders to the smallest oversize.
3. Fine vertical scratches made by the ring ends will not, by themselves, cause excessive oil consumption. Honing to remove the scratches is unnecessary.
4. If the bore is glazed but otherwise serviceable, break the glaze rightly with a hone and replace the piston rings.
5. If honing is not required the cylinder bores should be cleaned with a hot water and detergent wash.
^ Apply clean engine oil to the bore after cleaning.
