General Instructions
CAUTION: Batteries produce explosive gasses, contain corrosive acid, and supply levels of electrical current high enough to cause burns. Therefore, to reduce the risk of personal injury when working near a battery:Do not try to jump start a vehicle if you are unsure of the other vehicle's voltage or ground, or if the other vehicle's voltage and ground are different. Diesel engine vehicles have more than one battery. Should the vehicle have an optional diesel engine, use only the battery in the engine compartment when jump starting. This procedure can be used to start a single-battery vehicle from any of the diesel engine vehicle's batteries. However, at low temperatures, it may not be possible to start a diesel engine vehicle from a single battery in another vehicle. The booster and discharged batteries should be treated carefully when using jumper cables. Follow the procedure outlined below, being careful not to cause sparks.
1. Always shield your eyes and avoid leaning over the battery whenever possible.
2. Do not expose the battery to open flames or sparks.
3. Do not allow battery electrolyte to contact the eyes or skin. Flush any contacted areas with water immediately and thoroughly, and get medical help.
4. Follow each step in the jump starting instructions.
