Fuel Tank Leak Test

WARNING:
- Before attempting "Fuel Tank Leak Check" place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near work area.
- Before removing the fuel tank for a suspected leak, make sure fuel pipes are not leaking onto the tank. Once removed, make sure fuel is not leaking around fuel sender assembly O-ring.
- This check requires a fuel sender assembly and O-ring to be installed in the fuel tank
.

1. Disconnect the battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release.
3. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Draining Fuel Tank.
4. Remove the Fuel Tank Assembly.
5. Cap the fuel feed tube, fuel return tube and the vapor tube on the fuel sender assembly.
6. Connect a piece of hose to the filler tube nipple and plug the opposite end (if equipped).
7. Submerge the tank in water or apply a soap solution to the outside of the tank.
8. Apply 35 kPa (5 psi) of air pressure to the vent hose on the fuel tank.
9. Air bubbles appearing from the fuel tank indicate a leak. Replace the fuel tank if it is leaking. Refer to Fuel Tank Assembly.

A malfunction of the fuel balance control system may result in a Cranks But Will Not Run condition, caused by an inaccurate fuel gauge. Diagnosis of the fuel gauge can be found in System Diagnosis / Fuel Gauge. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
