General Information
Description
The Model 243 is a part-time four-wheel drive system that will allow the driver to select between 4-Wheel Drive Low Range (4LO), 4-Wheel Drive High Range (4HI), and 2-Wheel Drive High Range (2HI). The range positions are selected by the depressing one of three electric transfer case push button selector switches located in front of the driver on the console. The electronic Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) receives shift request from the control switches and positions the transfer case accordingly.
Construction
The Model 243 has a two-piece aluminum case containing front and rear output shafts, two drive sprockets, a shift mechanism, and a planetary gear assembly. The drive sprockets are connected and operated by the drive chain. The planetary assembly, which consists of a six-pinion carrier and an annulus gear, provides the four-wheel drive low range when engaged. The gear reduction ratio is 2.72:1 in this range.
