Parking Brake System: Service and Repair

Rear Parking Brake Components:

Disassemble
1. Remove rear parking brake shoe and lining.
2. Remove parking brake cable from lever.
^ Loosen equalizer enough to provide adequate clearance.
3. Bolts/screws.
4. Retainer and boot.
5. Adjuster screw and nut.
6. Tappet.
7. Pushrod.
^ Use a magnet to remove pushrod from actuator.
8. Lever.

Clean
^ All parts with a clean dry shop cloth.

Inspect
^ All parts for excessive wear, cracks or other changes. Replace parts as needed.

Assemble
1. Lubricate all moving parts with Lubriplate(R) P/N 1050109.
2. Lever.
3. Pushrod.
^ Fully seat pushrod into actuator.
4. Tappet.
5. Adjuster screw and nut.
6. Boot and retainer.
7. Bolts/screws.
^ Tighten snugly.
8. Install rear parking brake cable to lever.
9. Install rear parking brake shoe and lining.

Adjust
1. Rear parking brake shoe and lining.
2. Rear parking brake cable.
