Camshaft, Lifters and Push Rods: Description and Operation
The valve train is a ball pivot type. Motion is transmitted from the camshaft through the hydraulic roller valve lifters and the tubular pushrods to the rocker arms.^ The rocker arm pivots on a ball in order to open the valve.

^ The rocker arm stud retains the rocker arm ball with a locking nut. The rocker arm stud is threaded into the cylinder head.
