Installation
CAUTION:^ The manufacture recommends that the replacement of exhaust system parts must be OEM standard to ensure that the vehicle operates as designed.
^ When installing the new exhaust parts check for proper system alignment. Rattles or noise vibrations in the exhaust system usually are caused by misaligned parts. When aligning the system, leave all bolts or the nuts loose until all the parts are properly aligned. Then tighten, working from the front to rear.
^ To maintain the exhaust system alignment, replace the following:
- Hangers
- Hanger brackets
- Clamps
^ When jacking or lifting the vehicle from the frame side rails, be certain lift pads do not contact the three-way catalytic converter as damage to the converter will result.
NOTE: The following items are important to the exhaust system replacement.
^ When service to the exhaust system requires removing or replacing the oxygen sensor. Refer to in Engine Controls.
^ Exhaust system replacement parts must be to OEM standards to ensure the vehicle operates as designed.
^ When installing the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold, always use new nuts. Clean the exhaust manifold stud threads with a wire brush before installing the new nuts.
^ When replacing a muffler, replace the tail pipe also.
1. Connect the exhaust pipe to the manifold.
2. Connect the converter hanger to the transmission support.
3. Connect the exhaust pipe to the converter.
4. Connect the converter to the converter hanger.
5. Connect the converter to the muffler.
6. Connect the muffler to the front muffler hanger assembly (extended cab).
7. Connect the muffler to the rear muffler and tail pipe insulator hanger assembly.
8. Connect the tail pipe to the tail pipe hanger assembly.
