Transfer Case Removal and Installation

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
- Raise the vehicle and suitably support it.
2. Transfer case shield.
- Drain the oil from the transfer case.
3. Front and rear propeller shafts.





4. Vent line and electrical connections.





5. Transfer case shift cable at the transfer case (NV231 only).








6. Bolts and stud securing the right and left side transfer case braces to the transfer case and transmission.








7. Bolts securing the transfer case to transmission.
- Support the transfer case with a suitable jack.
- Slide the transfer case off the transmission output shaft.
- Lower the transfer case.
8. Shift control cable bracket.
9. Transfer case.
10. Gasket.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New gasket to the transmission.
- Use gasket sealer to hold it in place.
2. Transfer case to the vehicle.
3. Shift control cable bracket.
4. Transfer case to transmission with bolts.
- Tighten bolts to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).
- Remove the jack from the transfer case.








5. Bolts and stud securing the right and left side transfer case braces to the transfer case and transmission.
- Tighten right and left side brace bolts and stud to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
6. Shift cable to the transfer case lever (NV231 only).
7. Vent line and electrical connection.
8. Front and rear propeller shafts.
9. Transfer case shield.
10. Fill the transfer case with oil.
- Lower the vehicle.
11. Negative battery cable.
