Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

General

Do not try to jump start a vehicle if you are unsure of the other vehicle's voltage or ground, or if the other vehicle's voltage and ground are different.

The booster battery and the discharged battery should be treated carefully when using jumper cables. Follow the procedure outlined below, being careful not to cause sparks.

CAUTION: Batteries produce explosive gasses, contain corrosive acid, and supply levels of electrical current high enough to cause burns. Therefore, to reduce the risk of personal injury when working near a battery:
^ Always shield your eyes and avoid leaning over the batter whenever possible.
^ Do not expose the battery to open flames or sparks.
^ Do not allow battery acid to contact the eyes or skin. Flush any contacted areas with water immediately and thoroughly, and get medical help.
^ Follow each step In the jump starting instructions.

NOTE: Do not push or tow the vehicle to start it. Under some conditions this may damage the catalytic converter or other parts of the vehicle. Also, since this vehicle has a 12-volt negative ground electrical system, make sure the vehicle or equipment used to Jump start the engine has a 12-volt negative ground electrical system. Use of any other type system may damage the vehicle's electrical components.
