Flushing the Power Steering System
1. Raise the front end of the vehicle off the ground until the tires and wheels are free to turn.2. Remove the fluid return hose at the, pump inlet connector.
3. Plug the inlet connector-port on the pump.
4. Position the fluid return hose toward a large container in order to catch the draining fluid.
5. While an assistant is filling the reservoir with new power steering fluid, run the engine at idle.
6. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop. DO NOT hold the wheel at a stop. A sudden overflow from the reservoir may occur, if the wheel is held at a stop.
7. Install all pipes and hoses.
8. Fill the system with new power steering fluid and bleed the system. Service and Repair
9. Operate the engine for about 15 minutes.
10. Remove the pump return hose at the pump inlet and plug the connection on the pump.
11. Refill the reservoir and check the draining fluid for contamination. If foreign material is still evident, replace all hoses. Disassemble, clean, or replace the power steering components. Do not reuse any drained power steering fluid.
