Defect Involved
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1996-97 M/L Vans equipped with seven passenger seating (AL4). These vehicles exhibit a condition in which the outboard safety belt webbing on the right-hand rear bucket seat could separate during an impact having the same kind of dynamics and loading on the seat belt as a 30 mph sled test. In the event of this separation, the occupant of this seat could be more severely injured. To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, dealers are to install a protector on the rear seat cushion frame.
