Armrest Bracket and Water Deflector

CAUTION: The water deflectors on all doors serve multiple purposes. The deflectors do prevent water Intrusion, as well as air leaks, dust and noise. More importantly, they help seal the Interior of the vehicle from the intrusion of vehicle exhaust.

All door water deflectors are perforated to assist the technician in accessing the interior of the door for service. In some cases it will still be necessary to peel back the deflector.

If the deflector is separated at a perforation, peeled back or removed from the door, it is essential that the deflector be properly re-sealed to prevent the intrusion of exhaust gases. For a deflectors that were peeled back or removed, the adhesive on the door and deflector from the factory will usually be adequate to re-adhere the deflector to the door. If additional adhesive is required, a small amount of weatherstrip adhesive such as GM P/N 12345096, or equivalent, may be used. If the deflector was separated at a perforation, a cloth reinforced tape with a strong adhesive may be used to secured the piece together.

If the deflector is too badly damaged to provide a proper seal, it should be replaced.
