Input Clutch Assembly Assemble

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J 23327-1 Clutch Spring Compressor
- J 23456 Clutch Spring Compressor Press
- J 25018-A Clutch Spring Compressor Adaptor
- J 26744-A Seal Installer
- J 29882 Inner Overrun Clutch Seal Protector
- J 29883 Inner Forward Clutch Seal Protector





1. Install a new O-ring input to forward clutch housing seal.





2. Install new seals on the 3rd and 4th clutch piston.
3. Install the 3rd and 4th clutch piston into the input housing.





4. Inspect the forward clutch housing for the following defects:
- Proper check ball operation
- Damage or distortion
- Burrs in the seal areas
- Cracks





5. Inspect the forward clutch piston for the following defects:
- Porosity or damage
- Seal damage
- Apply leg damage





6. Install the forward clutch piston into the forward clutch housing.





7. Install the 3rd and 4th spring assembly into the 3rd and 4th apply ring.
8. Install the forward clutch housing and piston into the 3rd and 4th apply ring.
9. The forward clutch piston apply legs must be indexed with the 3rd and 4th clutch apply ring legs.

10. Install the inner forward clutch seal protector on the input housing.
11. In order to install the 3rd and 4th clutch apply ring and the forward housing and piston assembly perform the following functions:
- Hold the assembly by the 3rd and 4th clutch apply ring legs during installation.
- Do not let the forward clutch piston separate from the housing.
- Firmly seat the assembly.

12. Remove the inner forward clutch seal protector from the input housing.





13. Inspect the overrun clutch piston for the following defects:
- Porosity or damage
- Seal groove nicks or damage
- Overrun clutch ball proper operation

14. Install the seal on the overrun clutch piston.





15. Install the inner overrun seal protector on the input housing.
16. Install the overrun piston in the input housing.





17. Using a universal seal installer, carefully install the overrun clutch piston outer seal.





18. Install the overrun clutch spring assembly.





19. Install the clutch spring compressor and the clutch spring compressor adaptor and compress the overrun clutch spring assembly.
20. Install the overrun clutch spring retainer snap ring.
21. Remove the clutch spring compressor.
