Torque Converter End Play Check

- J 35138 Torque Converter End Play Checking Tool
- J 26900-13 Magnetic Base
- J 8001 Dial Indicator Set
- J 39195 Converter End Play Tool





1. Screw the upper and lower knurled knobs of J 35138 together.

IMPORTANT: When inserting the J 39195 be sure that the collet is not expanded.

2. Insert J 39195 into the torque converter.
3. Slide the tapered plug of J 35138 into the torque converter hub.
4. Hold the upper knurled knob and turn the wing nut clockwise until tight.
5. Back off the wing nut 2 1/2 turns or until the tool is loose but still unable to be removed from the torque converter.
6. Hold the upper knurled knob and turn the wing nut clockwise until the nut is tight.
7. Hold the upper knurled knob and turn the lower knurled knob clockwise until snug.
8. Using the J 26900-13, position the J 8001 so that the dial indicator tip is in the center of the wing nut.
9. Preload the J 8001.
10. Push the upper knurled knob down.
11. Set the dial indicator to zero.
12. Pull the lower knurled knob up.
13. Inspect the reading on the dial indicator. The total end play should be 0.0-0.6 mm (0.0 - 0.024).
14. Repeat this procedure several times in order to get an accurate measurement.
15. Remove the tools.
