Oil Pan: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDUREIMPORTANT: Do not raise the engine by the crankshaft balancer to perform this service procedure. Damage to the crankshaft balancer or the crankshaft may occur.
1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
3. Remove the oil level indicator and tube from the engine.
4. Raise the vehicle.
5. Drain the crankcase.
6. Remove the starter from the engine block.
7. Remove the flywheel inspection cover if equipped.
8. Remove the oil filter and adapter (4WD) if equipped.
9. Remove the oil cooler line retainer from the retaining bracket.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT lift the engine by the crankshaft balancer to aid in removing the oil pan from the engine block. Damage to crankshaft balancer or crankshaft could occur.
10. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
11. Remove the clutch if equipped.
12. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
13. Remove the oil pan bolts from the engine block.
14. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
15. Remove the oil pan gasket from the engine block.
16. Remove the oil from the sealing surfaces. Refer to Engine Block Clean and Inspect under Engine Unit Repair.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: The oil pan gasket is reusable. Replace only if the gasket is damaged.
1. Install the oil pan gasket on the oil pan.
2. Install the oil pan gasket and oil pan to the engine block.
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the oil pan bolts to the engine block.
Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the clutch assembly to the flywheel.
5. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft.
6. Install flywheel inspection cover to the transmission.
7. Install the transmission in the vehicle.
8. Install the starter to the engine block.
9. Install oil cooler line to the retainers.
10. Install the oil filter adapter (4WD) to the cylinder block if equipped.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Install the oil level indicator and tube.
13. Fill the crankcase with new engine oil.
14. Connect the battery negative cables to the battery.
15. Close the hood.
