Cylinder Head Replacement - Left Side

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Drain the engine coolant.
3. Disconnect the PCV tube from the air cleaner outlet duct.
4. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from the throttle body.
5. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
6. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly.

IMPORTANT: Do not evacuate the A/C system. The A/C pipes can remain on the compressor.

7. Remove the air conditioning compressor, if equipped, and move aside.





8. Remove the nuts holding the power steering pump rear bracket to the engine.

IMPORTANT: The power steering pump can remain on the power steering pump mounting bracket. The power steering pump hoses can remain attached to the power steering pump.





9. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket and secure out of the way.
10. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket stud from the cylinder head.
11. Remove the intake manifold.
12. Remove the exhaust manifold.





13. Remove the spark plug wire harness and the support.





14. Remove the ground wires at the rear of the cylinder head.
15. Remove the fuel line bracket bolt at the rear of the cylinder head.
16. Remove the valve pushrods.





17. Remove the cylinder head bolts.
18. Remove the cylinder head.
19. Clean all surfaces.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the cylinder head.
2. Install the valve pushrods.


NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.






3. Install the spark plug wire harness and the support.
^ Tighten the support bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).





4. Install the ground wires at the rear of the cylinder head.
^ Tighten the ground wire bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).

5. Install the fuel pipe bracket bolt at the rear of the cylinder head.
^ Tighten the fuel pipe bracket bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

6. Install the exhaust manifold.
7. Install the intake manifold.





8. Install the power steering pump mounting bracket stud in the cylinder head.
^ Tighten the power steering pump mounting bracket stud to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

9. Install the power steering pump mounting bracket.
^ Tighten the power steering pump mounting bracket bolts and nuts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





10. Install the nuts holding the power steering pump rear bracket to the engine.
^ Tighten the power steering pump rear bracket nuts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

11. Install the air conditioning compressor, if equipped.
12. Install the engine cooling fan.





13. Fill the engine coolant system.
14. Connect the battery negative cable.
15. Install the air cleaner assembly.
16. Install the air cleaner outlet duct onto the throttle body.
17. Connect the PCV tube to the air cleaner outlet duct.
