g. Shift Shaft and Shift Forks
CLEANING AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE1. Clean all of the parts in a suitable solvent. Air dry the parts.
IMPORTANT: The shift fork, the pads and the inserts are serviced as an assembly only.
2. Inspect the shaft for wear or scoring.
3. Inspect the forks for the following conditions:
^ Wear
^ Scoring
^ Distortion
(The edges of the forks turn black in color. This is a normal condition.)
4. Inspect the shift lever and the blockout bushing for wear.
5. Inspect the pins for wear or distortion.
IMPORTANT: Wear or distortion requires replacement of the assembly and close inspection of the mating parts.
6. Inspect the shift shaft socket assembly components for wear or distortion.
