Oil Filter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE


1. Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands.





2. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil into a suitable container.





3. For 4WD vehicles remove the oil filter from the oil filter adapter.





4. Remove the oil filter from the engine, RWD vehicles.
5. Inspect to ensure the engine oil filter gasket is removed.


INSTALLATION PROCEDURE


1. Lubricate the oil filter gasket with clean engine oil.





2. For a 4WD vehicle install the oil filter to the oil filter adapter.





3. For RWD vehicle install the oil filter to the engine.
4. Tighten the oil filter following the instructions on the filter.





NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the oil pan drain plug into the oil pan.
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

6. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
7. Fill the crankcase with the proper capacity and quality of engine oil.
8. Operate the engine and check for leaks and oil pressure.
