Programming Replacement Keys, Ign CYL, or PCM Seed and Key
Programming Replacement Keys, Ign Cyl, or PCM Seed and KeyThis step-by-step procedure augments the Passlock diagnostic procedures. Sole reliance on this procedure may lead to unintended results.
This procedure necessitates the following equipment:
1. A CD-ROM database containing the Passlock seed and key algorithm loaded on a computer with Class 2 capability
2. A scan tool
3. This procedure allows relearning of the Passlock module or the vehicle control module (VCM) following replacement of the following parts:
4. The Passlock module
5. The Passlock sensor
6. The VCM
The Passlock module sets the DTC B3031 module in the learn mode, when entering the reprogramming procedure. In addition to the time involved in performing the specific steps, the seed and key procedure accomplishes the same task in 10 minutes as the auto learn procedure does in 30 minutes. Use either procedure.
1. Clear all the Passlock module DTCs and the VCM DTCs
2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3. Replace the module or the sensor, as necessary.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
5. Momentarily rotate the ignition switch to the START position without starting the engine. Release the ignition switch to the ON position.
6. With the scan tool or the Class 2 compatible computer connected to the data link connector, issue the Passlock Request Device Control
7. Observe the Class 2 response ($7F $AE $SFE $80 $33) to Request Device Control Denied.
8. Issue an Unlock Module Security (mode $27 01 Request Seed and mode $27 01 wx yz Send Key) to Initiate Seed and Key Learn sequence.
9. Following the Request Seed (mode $27 01) command, access a CD-ROM database for the algorithm necessary for unlocking the Passlock module or the VCM.
10. Issue the Request Device Control ($AE SFE S80).
11. Observe the Class 2 response Device Control Enabled ($EE $FE SE1).
12. Observe that the SECURITY indicator is illuminated continuously for a period of 10 minutes.
13. Following the period of 10 minutes when the SECURITY indicator extinguishes, module is ready for learning the new component on the subsequent ignition lock cylinder cycle from the OFF position, to the START position, to the ON position (start attempt).
14. If a new VCM is being installed for the first time, the manufacturing enable bit sets and the auto learn procedure may not be necessary.
15. Erase Passlock-related DTCs stored at the VCM. If any powertrain-related DTCs are present, record the powertrain DTCs first. Refer to Engine Controls to complete powertrain DTC procedures.
