INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
^ Tools Required:
- J 21474-01 Control Arm Bushing Service Kit
1. Install the shackle bushing. A new shackle bushing must be used. Use the tools as shown.
2. Pull the bushing into the frame rail until the flanged portion of the bushing is flush with the rail
3. Stake the shackle bushing inner flange.
4. Raise the axle into position.
5. Install the following parts:
^ The frame to the shackle bolt
^ The washers
^ The nut
Do not tighten the nut.
6. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for the other bushings.
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
7. Support the axle so that there is a distance of 170 mm + 6 mm (6.7 in + 0.24 in) between the axle tube and the metal surface of the bumper bracket (1).
^ Tighten the rear shackle nuts to 122 Nm (89 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the fuel tank on pickups and 4 door utility models.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Connect the battery negative cable.
