Subject:
Case Extension Bushing Replacement

Models:
1998 Chevrolet Camaro
1998 Pontiac Firebird

1998 Chevrolet and GMC C, G, M, S Models
with HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E Transmission (RPO M3O)

Transmissions built between January 5, 1998 and April 6, 1998 (Julian dates 005 through 096) were built with one of two styles of extension assemblies, with different bushings.

The bushings are not interchangeable.

For replacement of the extension bushing, remove the extension assembly and inspect the interior for the presence of three internal ribs. (Figure 1)

Extension assemblies with internal ribs use Teflon(R) bushing, P/N 24207915. (Figure 2)

Extension assemblies without internal ribs use bronze bushing, P/N 6260048. (Figure 2)

Notice:
Failure to follow the above instructions may result in transmission damage.

Extension assemblies with internal ribs and Teflon(R) bushing will back service 2-piece case applications from 1996 to 1998.
