Condition
Some owners may comment about rust on the transmission fluid level indicator and the transmission oil filler tube.
Cause
Water entering through the grommet of the indicator may cause this condition.
Correction
A new transmission fluid level indicator, with an improved grommet and corrosion resistant metal, has been developed to correct this condition. Replace the indicator and, if necessary, replace the transmission oil filler tube on affected vehicles. Use the following procedure and the appropriate part numbers listed.
1. Replace the indicator with the revised indicator.
2. Also, inspect the transmission fluid filler tube for signs of excessive rust on the inside or outside of the tube. Replace the tube as necessary. Refer to the Filler Tube Replacement procedure in the Automatic Transmission 4L60-E subsection of the appropriate Service Manual.
3. Change the transmission fluid. Replace the transmission filter. Refer to the Transmission Filter Replacement procedure in the Automatic Transmission 4L60-E subsection of the appropriate Service Manual.
