Transmission Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

VALVE BODY AND PRESSURE SWITCH REPLACEMENT


REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Remove the transmission oil pan and filter.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the control valve body components.
4. Remove the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid bolts.
5. Remove the wiring harness bolts.





6. Remove the TCC solenoid assembly with the O-ring seal and the wiring harness, then reposition.





7. Remove the transmission pressure switch assembly bolts.
8. Remove the pressure switch assembly.





9. Remove the manual detent spring bolt.
10. Remove the manual detent spring.





11. Remove the remaining control valve body bolts.
12. Disconnect the manual valve link and remove the control valve body from the transmission case.
13. Inspect the control valve body. Refer to Transmission Unit Repair for cleaning, inspection, and repair procedures of the control valve body.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the control valve body and connect the manual valve link to the transmission case.





2. Check that the manual valve link (3) is installed properly to the inside detent lever (1) and the manual valve (2).





3. Install the control valve body bolts.

IMPORTANT: When installing bolts throughout this procedure, be sure to use the correct bolt in the correct location as specified.





4. Install the manual detent spring.
5. Install the manual spring detent bolt.





6. Install the pressure switch assembly.
7. Install the pressure switch assembly bolts.





8. Install the wiring harness, the TCC solenoid and the O-ring seal.





9. Install the wiring harness bolts.
10. Install the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC0 solenoid bolts.
11. Connect the electrical connectors to the valve body components.





12. Tighten the control valve body bolts in a spiral pattern starting from the center, as indicated by the arrows.
- Tighten the control valve body bolts (in sequence) to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: Certain bolts MUST be tightened in a spiral pattern as indicated by the arrows. If these bolts are tightened at random, the valve bores may become distorted. This will inhibit valve operation.

13. Tighten the TCC solenoid bolts.
- Tighten TCC solenoid bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).

14. Install the transmission oil pan and filter.
15. Lower the vehicle.
