Horn Sounding, No Start Due to Water Intrusion Into Accessory Wiring Junction Block (Replace Accessory Wiring Junction Block)

Models:
1998 Chevrolet and GMC S/T Models
1998 Oldsmobile Bravada

This bulletin is being revised to change the part numbers. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 99-06-03-004 (Section 06 - Engine/Propulsion System).

Condition
Some owners may comment about the horn sounding continuously, or that the fuel pump runs continuously which could result in a dead battery and a no start condition. The condition may be more noticeable after washing the vehicle or after a heavy rain. This condition may also occur on some Japanese export vehicles.

Cause
These conditions may be caused from water or moisture entering the Underhood (UH) accessory wiring junction block (bussed electrical center). This water or moisture may initiate corrosion that could cause bridging of the circuits resulting In the above conditions.

Correction
A new accessory wiring junction block has been developed to correct this condition. Install a new junction block on the affected vehicles. Refer to the Engine Electrical subsection in the 1998 S/T Service Manual for junction block replacement procedures. Use the appropriate part number listed below.
