Power Seats - Forward/Rearward Function Inoperative

Driver or Passenger Front Power Seat Forward and Rearward
Function Inoperative (Replace Seat Adjuster Assembly/install Protector Shield)

Models:
1998-99 Chevrolet and GMC S/T Utility Models
1998-99 Oldsmobile Bravada
with Power Front Seats (RPO's AG1, AG2, AN3)

Condition

Some owners may comment that the forward and rearward function of the power seat is inoperative.

Cause

The vehicle's occupant may misinterpret the power adjuster cable housing as a handle and pull on the housing. When pulled, the cable may separate from the motor and prevent operation of the seat function.

Correction

Replace the power seat adjuster assembly. A new shield has been developed to prevent access and misinterpretation of the cable housing. Use the following procedure and the appropriate part numbers listed below for replacement of the adjuster assembly and installation of the shield.

1. Remove the seat assembly from the vehicle.

2. Remove the screws and the heated/lumbar switch from the seat, if equipped.

3. Remove the seat belt buckle.

4. Disconnect the electrical connections from the adjuster assembly.

5. Separate the seat cushion cover J-strips from the seat bottom frame.

6. Remove the bolts that retain the seat back to the seat bottom frame.

7. Remove the seat back assembly.

8. Remove the nuts retaining the adjuster assembly to the seat bottom frame.

9. Remove the adjuster assembly.

10. Install the adjuster assembly into position.

11. Install the nuts that retain the adjuster assembly to the seat bottom frame.

Tighten

Tighten the nuts to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

12. Install the seat back assembly into position.

13. Install the bolts that retain the seat back to the seat bottom frame.

Tighten

Tighten the bolts to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).

14. Install the seat cushion cover to the seat bottom frame.

15. Connect the electrical connections to adjuster assembly.

16. Install the seat belt buckle.

Tighten

Tighten the bolt to 70 N.m (52 lb ft).

17. Install the heated/lumbar switch and the screws to the seat, if equipped.








18. Install the shield, P/N 12476162 or 12476163, and the attaching screws, P/N 12476198. Use existing screw holes as shown.

19. Install the seat assembly into the vehicle.
