Leak Test - Process Overview
CAUTION: Do not operate the leak detector in a combustible atmosphere since its sensor operates at high temperatures or personal injury and/or damage to the equipment may result.CAUTION: Avoid breathing the A/C Refrigerant 134a (R-134a) and the lubricant vapor or the mist. Exposure may irritate the eyes, nose, and throat. Work in a well ventilated area. In order to remove the R-134a from the A/C system, use service equipment that is certified to meet the requirement of SAE J 2210 (R-134a recycling equipment). If an accidental system discharge occurs, ventilate the work area before continuing service. Additional health and safety information may be obtained from the refrigerant and lubricant manufacturers.
A refrigerant leak test should be performed on the system whenever a leak is suspected and after performing a service operation that disturbs the components, lines, or connections. Many methods and special tools are available for this purpose; however, no matter which tool is used, care and diligence are the biggest keys to success.
