INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the seal into the knuckle using the J 36605.
2. Connect the knuckle to the upper and lower ball joints.
3. Install the lower ball joint to steering knuckle nut.
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
4. Install the upper ball joint to steering knuckle nut.
Tighten
^ Tighten the lower nut to 128 Nm (95 lb ft).
^ Tighten the upper nut to 90 Nm (66 lb ft).
5. Install the new cotter pins. Tighten the nuts up to an additional i/6 amount in order to insert the cotter pin through the upper and lower ball joint studs. Bend the cotter pin ends flat against the nut.
6. Install the splash shield. Make sure to properly align the splash shield.
7. Install the splash shield bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 16 Nm (12 lb ft).
8. Install the drive axle. Refer to FRONT DRIVE AXLE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT in FRONT DRIVE AXLE.
9. Install the hub and bearing assembly. Align the threaded holes.
10. Install the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 90 Nm (66 lb ft).
11. Install the drive axle washer and the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 200 Nm (147 lb ft).
12. install the outer tie rod. Refer to TIE ROD REPLACEMENT in STEERING LINKAGE.
13. Install the speed sensor to the bearing. Refer to FRONT WHEEL SENSOR REPLACEMENT (F4WD) in ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM.
14. Connect the speed sensor electrical connector.
15. Install the brake rotor. Refer to BRAKE ROTOR REPLACEMENT in DISC BRAKES.
16. Install the brake caliper. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER REPLACEMENT in DISC BRAKES.
