REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Do all removal steps, Refer to Coil Assembly, Inflatible Restraint Steering Wheel.
2. Do removal steps 7 and 8, Refer to T/S & Multifunction Switch Assembly.
3. Do removal steps 2 through 6, Refer to Linear Shaft Assembly.
4. Do removal steps 2 through 6, Refer to Upper Tilt Head Components.
5. Do removal steps 2 through 9, Refer to Lock Module Assembly.
6. Do removalsteps 4 and 5, Refer Tilt Spring.
Removing Pivot Pin:
7. Two pivot pins (56) using J 21854-01.
8. Steering column tilt head assembly (26).
- Pull tilt arm to disengage steering wheel lock shoes from dowel pins in steering column support assembly (57).
INSTALL OR CONNECT
CAUTION: Always use the correct fastener In the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion Inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener pint Interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and pint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these Instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunction of steering column.
1. Steering column tilt head assembly (26).
- Using tilt lever position lock shoes to dowel pins.
- Rotate head assembly (26) until holes for pivot pins (56) line up.
2. Two pivot pins (56).
a. Lubricate with lithium grease.
b. Press pins until firmly seated two places.
c. Stake pins (56) three locations two places.
3. Do installation step 2, Refer Tilt Spring.
4. Do installation steps 2 through 4, Refer to Lock Module Assembly.
5. Do installation steps 1 through 6, Refer to Upper Tilt Head Components.
6. Do installation steps 1 through 6, Refer to Linear Shaft Assembly, and adjust and inspect.
7. Do all installation steps, Refer to Coil Assembly, Inflatible Restraint Steering Wheel.
