Oil Pump: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
3. Remove the oil pan from the engine block.
4. Remove the oil pump bolt from the crankshaft main bearing cap.
5. Remove the oil pump from the crankshaft rear bearing cap.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the oil pump to the crankshaft rear bearing cap.
^ Align the slot in the oil pump shaft with the tang on the distributor shaft.
^ The oil pump should slide easily into place.
^ Do not use a gasket.
IMPORTANT: When installing the oil pump, always replace the retainer between the oil pump and the shaft.
2. Install the oil pump bolt to the crankshaft main bearing cap.
^ Tighten the oil pump bolt to 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that the oil pump assembly is installed properly in to the engine before tightening the mounting bolts.
3. Install the oil pan to the engine block.
4. Connect the negative battery cable.
5. Close the hood.
