Engine Front Cover Installation

^ Tools Required
- J 22102 Seal Installer





1. Install a NEW crankshaft front oil seal into the engine front cover using the J 22102.
2. Lubricate the sealing surface of the crankshaft front oil seal with clean engine oil.

IMPORTANT: The engine front cover must be installed and the fasteners tightened while the sealant is still wet to the touch.

3. Apply the sealant GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent in two sealant points on the engine front cover where the engine front cover meets the oil pan.





4. Install the engine front cover.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





5. Install the engine front cover bolts (1).
^ Tighten the engine front cover bolts (1) to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).





6. Install the new O-ring seal onto the crankshaft position sensor. Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring.





7. Install the crankshaft position sensor (2).

NOTICE: This bolt is a self-tapping bolt. If installing this bolt into a new component, installation of the bolt may be difficult. Ensure that the bolt is not over-torqued during the initial installation (thread cutting). Failure to limit torque can lead to bolt failure.

8. Install the crankshaft position sensor bolt (1).
^ Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolt (1) to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
