Maintenance

Keep the power steering system clean. At regular intervals verify that the fluid level in the reservoir is at its full mark and add fluid as required.
If the system contains some dirt, flush it as detailed. If it is exceptionally dirty, disassemble the pump and the gear for cleaning and flushing and reassemble before further use. Flush the system including the reservoir completely before further use.
Inspect all tubes, hoses and fittings for leaks at regular intervals. Fittings must be tight. Make sure the clips, clamps, supporting tubes and hoses are in place and properly secured. Inspect the hoses with the wheels in the straight-ahead position. Then turn the wheels fully to the left and right, while observing the movement of the hoses. Correct any hose contact with other parts of the vehicle that could cause chaffing or wear.
Verify that the power steering hoses and lines are not twisted, kinked or tightly bent. The hoses should have enough curves in the routing to allow for movement and hose shortening during vehicle operation. Air in the system will cause a spongy action and noisy operation. When disconnecting a hose or when fluid loss is detected for any reason, bleed the system after refilling.
