Cylinder Head Replacement - Right Side

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the A/C compressor from the mounting bracket, if equipped, and set it aside.

IMPORTANT: It is not necessary to evacuate the A/C refrigerant.

4. Remove the lower intake manifold.
5. Remove the exhaust manifold.
6. Remove the valve rocker arms and push rods.
7. Remove the valve rocker arm cover, if necessary.
8. Remove the power steering pump pulley.





9. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket using the following procedure:
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the power steering pump.
- Remove the two nuts holding the power steering pump to the engine.
- Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket bolts and the nut.
- Slide the power steering pump mounting bracket forward with the power steering pump still attached.
- Set the power steering pump and the mounting bracket aside.
- Remove the stud.

10. Disconnect the wiring bracket from the rear of the right cylinder head.





11. For the right side cylinder head, remove the following components:
- Generator.
- Oil indicator tube.

12. Remove the generator mounting bracket using the following procedure:
- Remove one nut from the stud.
- Remove three bolts from the bracket.
- Slide the mounting bracket off of the stud.
- Remove the stud from the cylinder head.





13. Remove the sixteen cylinder head bolts.
14. Remove the cylinder head and the gasket.
15. Clean all sealing surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Clean and Inspect under Engine Unit Repair.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J 36660 Torque Angle Meter





1. Install the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation under Engine Unit Repair.
2. Install the valve rocker arms and the push rods.





3. For the left side cylinder head, install the power steering pump mounting bracket using the following procedure:
- Install the stud to the cylinder head.
- Tighten the stud to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
- Loosely assemble the mounting bracket over the stud.
- Install a nut to the stud finger tight.
- Install the three bolts finger tight.
- Install the two nuts to the power steering pump finger tight.
- Tighten the nuts and bolts to 44 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





4. Install the power steering pump pulley.
5. Connect the electrical connector to the power steering pump.





6. For the right side cylinder head, install the generator mounting bracket using the following procedure:
- Install the stud.
- Tighten the stud to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
- Loosely assemble the generator mounting bracket over the stud.
- Install a nut to the stud finger tight.
- Install the three bolts finger tight.
- Tighten the nuts and bolts to 44 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
- Install the generator.
- Oil indicator tube.

7. Install the exhaust manifold.
8. Install the lower intake manifold.
9. Install the valve rocker arm covers.
10. Install the A/C compressor, if equipped.
11. Install the drive belt.
12. Connect the battery negative cable.
