Instrument Panel (IP) - Carrier Replacement - Removal

REMOVAL PROCEDURE



1. Set the air flow control to the Instrument Panel (IP) vent position it equipped with Air Conditioning (A/C).
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable(s).
3. Disable the SIR system.
4. Apply the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from moving.
5. Move the shift lever all the way down (if the transmission is automatic).
6. Tilt the steering wheel to the full down position.
7. Remove the IP cluster trim plate bezel.
8. Remove the end panels. Left is shown, right is similar.
9. Remove the right side air outlets.
10. Remove the assist handle. Depress the release tabs accessed through the air outlet duct holes.




11. Remove the windshield pillar garnish moldings.




12. Remove the top cover.




13. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) to the ambient light sensor on the underside of the top cover.




14. Remove the following components, depending on how the vehicle is equipped:
^ The IP cupholder cover (shown)
^ The IP cupholder.




15. Remove the Data Link Connector (DLC) (1) from the IP assembly.
16. Remove the driver side knee bolster.
17. Remove the lower IP trim panel.
18. Remove the passenger side air bag module.




19. Remove the knee bolster deflector.
20. Remove the steering column.




21. Disconnect the Body Control Module (BCM) (1) from the bracket.




22. Unsnap the left side accessory switch bracket (1).
23. Disconnect the electrical connections.
24. Remove the IP Cluster.
25. Remove the radio.
26. Remove the HVAC control assembly.




27. Unsnap the right side accessory switch housing. Disconnect the electrical connection, if equipped.




28. Unbolt the IP upper brackets. Disconnect the wiring harness from the right upper bracket.
29. Disconnect the following electrical components as necessary from the IP assembly:
^ The remote control door lock receiver, if equipped with remote keyless entry.
^ The Right Side Bussed Electrical Center (RBEC).
^ The right side courtesy lamp.
^ The IP cluster lead. Unclip the component from the IP assembly.

30. Disconnect the parking brake release handle from the IP assembly.




31. Disconnect the following electrical components:
^ The Active Transfer Case (ATC) module (1) (if equipped).
^ The Left Bussed Electrical Center (LBEC) from the bracket.
^ The Mid Bussed Electrical Center (MBEC) from the bracket.
^ The left side courtesy lamp.




32. Remove the nuts (4) and screw (3) holding the IP assembly (IP) (2) to the IP carrier support (1).

33. Remove the cross car duct.

IMPORTANT: Remove all of the parts of the IP carrier assembly from the vehicle as one unit.




34. Remove the IP center support bracket bolt.




35. Remove the IP carrier side bolts. The left side is shown, the right side is similar.




36. Remove the IP carrier top bolts (1).




37. Remove the IP carrier (1) from the vehicle.
