Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
3. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
4. Disconnect the heater hoses.
5. Remove the accumulator.
6. Remove the instrument panel carrier.
7. Remove the HVAC module drain hose.
8. Disconnect the electrical harnesses and the ground connections as needed.
9. Remove the HVAC module mounting nuts and the screws.
10. Remove the HVAC module assembly. Set the HVAC module assembly on a bench.
11. Remove the HVAC module screws.




12. Separate the HVAC module.




13. Remove the evaporator core.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the evaporator core.




2. Install the HVAC module halves.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the HVAC module screws.

Tighten
Tighten the HVAC module screws to 1.6 Nm (14 lb in)

4. Install the HVAC module assembly to the vehicle.
5. Install the HVAC module mounting nuts and the screws.

Tighten
- Tighten the mounting screws to 4 Nm (35 lb in)
- Tighten the mounting nuts to 9 Nm (80 lb in)




6. Connect the electrical harnesses and the ground connections.
7. Install the HVAC module drain hose.
8. Install the instrument panel carrier.
9. Install the accumulator.
10. Connect the heater hoses.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
12. Refill the engine coolant.
13. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
