Bulletin No.: 99-08-64-029

Date: December, 1999

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Front Door Window Rattle (Install Stabilizer Bracket)

Models:
1999 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Models (Silverado and Sierra) Built prior to March 3, 1999

Condition

Some owners may comment about a rattle type noise coming from the driver's or passenger's front side door. This condition is most often heard when the door window is in the full down position while closing the door.

Correction

A window stabilizer bracket has been developed to correct this condition. Install the stabilizer bracket on affected vehicles. Use the following procedure and the part numbers listed below.

1. Remove the door trim panel and partially remove the primary door water deflector. Refer to the Doors subsection of the 1999 Silverado and Sierra Service Manual.

2. Remove the auxiliary water deflector from the door inner panel. Discard the deflector.

3. Measure and mark the locations of the pilot hole and slot (passenger side shown, driver similar).

Important:
Prior to drilling the holes, raise the door glass to the full up position.

4. Drill the pilot hole at the marked location using a 10 mm (3/8 in) bit.

5. Create the stabilizer bracket anti-rotation tab right door slot (1) or left door slot (2) using the following steps:

5.1. Drill the upper hole at the marked location using a 4 mm (3/16 in) bit.

5.2. Drill the lower hole at the marked location using a 4 mm (3/16 in) bit.

5.3. Create the slot portion between the holes using either of the following tools:

- A die grinder

- A saber saw

- A cut off wheel

- Any other suitable tool

Important:
After drilling the holes, apply the appropriate anti-corrosion primer. Refer to the GM Refinish Material Booklet # 4901M-D-99 (English) or # 4901M-D-F99 (French) for additional information.

6. Install the window stabilizer bracket, P/N 15745334, and bolt, P/N 11518297. You should install the stabilizer bracket through the door speaker opening (3). Refer to Speaker Replacement (Front Door) in the Entertainment subsection of the 1999 Silverado and Sierra Service Manual.

Tighten

Tighten the bolt to 11 N.m (97 lb in).

7. Verify the operation of the window. The window edge should not come in contact with the stabilizer bracket. Adjust the bracket as necessary.

8. Install the new lower water shield, P/N 15751725, to the door trim panel.

9. Install the primary door water deflector and the door trim panel. Refer to the Doors subsection of the 1999 Silverado and Sierra Service Manual.

10. Repeat the above steps for the other door.
