Front Seat Belt - Bunching

File In Section: 10 - Body

Bulletin No.: 86-16-20

Date: March, 1999

Subject:
Front Seat Belt Bunching
(Replace Seat Belt Retractor Assembly)

Models:
1999 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Models

Condition
Some owners of the above early production vehicles may comment about the front seat belt bunching at the seat belt bezel (on the seat belt tower) while moving from side-to-side. The condition may occur when the seat belt is buckled or unbuckled and may occur on the driver or passenger front 40% seats. The seat belts are not affected while the occupant is in the face forward riding position.

Cause
The condition may be caused by the seat belt bezel not allowing full movement of the seat belt.

Correction
A new seat belt retractor has been developed to correct the condition. Install a new seat belt retractor on affected vehicles. Refer to the 1999 Silverado and Sierra Service Information for seat belt retractor assembly replacement procedures. Use the appropriate part number listed below.
