Lubricant Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the rear axle fill plug.





3. Remove the rear axle drain plug.
3.1. Drain the lubricant into a suitable container.
3.2. Inspect the drain plug for excessive metal particle accumulation. This accumulation is symptomatic of extreme wear.
3.3. Clean the drain plug.


Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the rear axle drain plug.
^ Tighten the rear axle drain plug to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
2. Fill the rear axle to the following levels.
^ 8.6 inch ring gear rear axles 15 - 40 mm (0.6 -1 .6 inch) below the fill plug.
^ 9.5 and 10.5 inch ring gear rear axles 0 - 10 mm (0.4 inch) below the fill plug.





3. Install the rear axle fill plug.
^ Tighten the rear axle fill plug to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
4. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
