80. Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Installation

IMPORTANT: Be sure to keep parts in order. Parts must be put back from where they were removed.





1. Coat the valve rocker arm and valve rocker arm ball bearing surfaces with prelube GM P/N 1052367 or equivalent.

IMPORTANT: Be sure that the valve pushrods seat in the valve lifter sockets.

IMPORTANT: This engine uses different length intake and exhaust valve pushrods.
The exhaust valve pushrods are longer than the intake valve pushrods.

2. Install the valve pushrods.





3. Set the number one cylinder to Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke.
4. Loosely install the following parts:
4.1. The valve pushrod guides
4.2. The valve rocker arms
4.3. The valve rocker arm balls
4.4. The valve rocker arm bolts

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: It is necessary to follow the following procedure for proper valve train alignment.

5. Tighten the intake rocker arm bolts on cylinders 1, 2, 5 and 7.
^ Tighten the above intake rocker arm bolts to 54 Nm (40 lb ft).
6. Tighten the exhaust rocker arm bolts on cylinders 1, 3, 4 and 8.
^ Tighten the above intake rocker arm bolts to 54 Nm (40 lb ft).
7. Rotate the crankshaft one full turn (360°).
8. Tighten the intake rocker arm bolts on cylinders 3, 4, 6 and 8.
^ Tighten the above intake rocker arm bolts to 54 Nm (40 lb ft).
9. Tighten the exhaust rocker arm bolts on cylinders 2, 5, 6 and 7.
^ Tighten the above intake rocker arm bolts to 54 Nm (40 lb ft).
