5. Internal Components Assemble
1. Install the spring retainers to the synchronizer hub.
2. Align the scribe marks previously made on the synchronizer hub and the synchronizer sleeve.
3. Install the synchronizer hub to the synchronizer sleeve with the three struts.
4. Install the main drive synchronizer stop ring to the synchronizer sleeve.
5. Install the drive sprocket to the mainshaft.
6. Install the synchronizer assembly to the mainshaft.
7. Install the synchronizer snap ring to the mainshaft.
8. Use a soft faced hammer in order to install the following components into the annulus gear:
^ The input gear
^ The planetary assembly
9. Install the snap ring to the input bearing.
10. Apply RTV GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent to the input shaft bearing retainer mating surfaces.
11. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent to the input shaft bearing retainer bolts.
12. Install the input shaft bearing retainer and the input bearing retainer bolts to the front case half.
^ Tighten the input bearing retainer bolts to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
13. Install the three bolts that secure the encoder motor to the front case.
^ Tighten the input bearing retainer bolts to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
14. Install the range shift hub into the front case half.
15. Install the front output shaft to the front case half.
16. Install the driven sprocket to the chain.
Important: The following components are installed into the front case half as an assembly:
^ The mainshaft assembly
^ The driven sprocket
^ The drive chain
17. Install the drive chain onto the drive sprocket located on the mainshaft.
18. Install the driven gear snap ring to the front output shaft.
19. Install the mode shift fork onto the shift rail.
20. Install the mode shift fork assembly through the range shift fork, onto the synchronizer sleeve, and into the front case half.
21. Install the mode fork shift spring to the shift rail.
22. Install the following components into the rear case half:
^ The oil pump pickup tube.
^ The oil tube connector
^ The pump pickup screen
23. Install the oil tube O-ring into the oil pump.
24. Lubricate the oil pump pickup tube with automatic transmission fluid. Install the oil pump to the oil pickup tube.
25. Install the dowels into the front case half.
26. Wipe the case mating surfaces clean.
27. Apply RTV GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent to the case mating surfaces.
28. Install the rear case half over the mainshaft and onto the front case half.
Do not damage the oil pump while installing the rear case half.
29. Apply threadlocker GM P/M 12345382 or equivalent to the case bolts.
30. Install the case bolts into the case halves.
(The two longer case bolts and washers go into the doweled case holes.)
^ Tighten the case bolts to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).
31. Install the rear vehicle speed sensor rotor snap ring to the mainshaft.
32. Install the vehicle speed sensor rotor onto the mainshaft.
33. Install the vehicle speed sensor rotor snap ring.
34. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent to the rear retainer housing bolts.
35. Install the rear retainer housing and the rear retainer housing bolts to the rear case half.
(The rear retainer housing bolts are shouldered.)
^ Tighten the rear retainer housing bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
36. Install the output bearing snap ring to the mainshaft.
37. Apply RTV GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent to the mating surfaces.
38. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345832 or equivalent to the extension housing bolts.
39. Install the rear extension housing and the extension bolts to the rear retainer housing.
^ Tighten the bolts to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).
