Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
When you turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position, the SECURITY telltale will turn ON for 3 seconds and then turn OFF. The SECURITY telltale is located on the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The IPC will also turn the SECURITY telltale ON if the IPC is unable to communicate with the BCM over the Class 2 serial data line. If this condition exists, the BCM will not set a State of Health (SOH) diagnostic trouble code (DTC). The BCM does not need information from the IPC in order to function properly. The SECURITY telltale indicates whether the BCM has determined if the Passlock (TM) data has passed. If the BCM determines that the Passlock (TM) data has failed, the BCM sends a Class 2 message to the IPC to turn the SECURITY telltale ON. The SECURITY telltale will be ON STEADY or FLASHING when a Passlock (TM) DTC is set. The SECURITY telltale may also be FLASHING when the following conditions are present:^ The PCM/VCM is in the Fuel Disable state.
^ The time-out bit is set in the vehicle security status message since the last received ignition cycle.
